Showhome Design Lead

Studio Ridge is a boutique interior design studio seeking an experienced Showhome Design Lead to take increasing ownership of our growing showhome furnishings and interior decoration portfolio.
This is a position which will develop quickly into senior design leadership role with responsibility for shaping and overseeing the showhome portfolio. The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of the design direction, standards, execution, and ongoing evolution of our showhomes, rather than simply completing individual design assignments.
This is a hands-on design, client relationship and project leadership role. You will personally take showhome projects from initial concept through sourcing, presentation, procurement coordination, installation and final styling, while developing into a primary day-to-day relationship for our builder clients.
This is not a junior position, and it is not a position for someone who wants to design from the sidelines, or only displays design execution.
We are looking for someone who combines design ability with drive, organization, sound judgment and strong people skills—someone who takes personal accountability for results and naturally keeps things moving, without making the work about themselves.
You should be an experienced, commercially minded design professional who can combine strong creative capability with practical project leadership and accountability. The ideal candidate will have the confidence and maturity to take ownership of a significant portfolio, influence stakeholders, and deliver consistently high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

This is a full-time, in-office position located in Calgary, Alberta.

Applicants must hold a valid Canadian Driver's Licence and have access to a personal vehicle.

Applicants should have a minimum of 5-7 years of residential interior design experience in Canada or the United States.

Leadership without ego
The Showhome Design Lead has significant ownership and visibility, but Studio Ridge is not an individual-star environment.
Great installations happen because design, procurement, accounting, receiving, warehousing, logistics, vendors, workrooms and installers work together.
Our Procurement Coordinator and warehouse team are not simply there to support the designer. They own important parts of the process and will be your professional partners in delivering the work.
You will also be joining an established showhome practice with existing design, procurement, documentation, scheduling, warehouse and installation processes.
We value experience and new ideas, but your first responsibility will be to learn how our existing process works, understand why it works that way and build relationships with the people responsible for each part of it.
As your understanding grows, we want you to contribute ideas and help us improve.

Reporting Structure
Reports to: Founder & Principle / Creative Director
This Position Also Works Closely With: The Procurement Coordinator, Design Team Colleagues, and other Studio team members as required
With this autonomy comes accountability.
We distinguish self-direction from operating independently of established studio systems. You will be expected to learn and work within our existing showhome processes while taking increasing ownership of the portfolio.
You should know where your projects stand, what needs to happen next, where risks are developing and when something requires communication or escalation.
Experience & Technical Requirements
This is an experienced position. Demonstrated capability matters more to us than credentials alone.
You should have meaningful professional experience in interior design, showhomes/model homes, residential furnishings or a closely related field and be able to demonstrate projects you have personally helped take from concept through execution.
Strong working proficiency in the following is required and non-negotiable:
- AutoCAD
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Google Sheets / Google Workspace
You do not need to be an advanced CAD technician. However, you must be able to independently use AutoCAD to create accurate furniture plans, straightforward elevations and basic drawings required to execute your work.
Experience with high-volume sourcing, furnishings procurement, builder clients, installations, custom furnishings and workrooms is particularly valuable.
The Reality of Showhome Work
This is a fast-paced and continually shifting environment.
Construction schedules move. Opening dates change. Products become unavailable. Client priorities shift. Multiple installations can converge.
If you require every week to unfold exactly as planned, this may not be the right environment for you.

What You'll Do
Design & Sourcing
- Develop original showhome furnishing and décor concepts from initial direction through installation.
- Establish themes, palettes, furniture, lighting, artwork, accessories, window coverings and decorative details.
- Prepare client presentations, furniture plans, straightforward elevations and supporting design documentation.
- Source extensively and creatively while maintaining constant awareness of budget, availability, lead times and installation realities.
- Understand that showhome design is not a high-end product environment. Great design comes from knowing where to invest, where to economize and how to create an elevated result without relying on expensive products.
- Manage selections against the total project budget, not simply one item at a time.
- Participate actively in installations, styling and final completion.
Client Relationships
A major accountability of this position is the relationship with our builder clients.
You will:
- Become a trusted day-to-day design contact.
- Understand each builder’s brand, buyer, product and business objectives.
- Present design direction confidently and clearly.
- Build relationships throughout our clients’ organizations, including their interior and architectural designers, operations and sales teams, construction coordinators and site foremen.
- Communicate proactively when priorities, schedules or circumstances change.
- Follow through on commitments.
Strong client relationships require more than great design. They require responsiveness, reliability, communication and trust.
Project Delivery
Showhomes move quickly and construction schedules are not always predictable.
You will:
- Maintain visibility over multiple showhomes and competing deadlines.
- Work closely with our Procurement Coordinator and warehouse team from sourcing and purchasing through receiving, delivery and installation.
- Participate in logistical planning, scheduling and installation sequencing.
- Provide higher-level guidance around priorities and scheduling when required.
- Work directly with vendors, workrooms, fabricators, artisans and installers.
- Anticipate issues rather than simply reporting them after they occur.
- Reprioritize quickly without losing control of the details

Studio Ridge operates as a team.
The Showhome Design Lead has significant ownership and visibility, but this is not an individual-star environment.
A successful installation is not the accomplishment of the showhome designer alone. It is the combined result of design, procurement, accounting, receiving, warehousing, logistics, vendors, workrooms, installers and our client's own team doing their respective jobs well.

Joining an Established Showhome Practice
You will be joining an established showhome practice with existing design, sourcing, procurement, documentation, scheduling, warehouse and installation processes.
Your experience and ideas are important, but your first responsibility will be to learn how our existing process works, understand why it works that way and develop strong working relationships with the people responsible for each part of it.
We want someone who asks questions, observes and understands before assuming that a different way is necessarily a better way.
As your knowledge of our clients, team and workflow develops, you will be encouraged to identify opportunities to strengthen and evolve how we work.

Reporting, Autonomy & Growth
You will report directly to Studio Ridge's Founder & Principal / Creative Director.
The position carries a high degree of self-direction, but autonomy and accountability go together.
We distinguish self-direction from operating independently of the studio's established systems. Initially, you will be expected to invest time in learning our clients, processes and working relationships. From there, your ownership will increase.
You will be expected to know where your projects stand, understand what needs to happen next, identify risks early, communicate appropriately and keep both the creative and delivery sides of the work moving.
You will have access to the Principal for creative direction, strategic decisions and escalation. The objective, however, is for you to develop increasing responsibility for the showhome portfolio rather than requiring continual day-to-day direction.
Over time, we expect this position to grow particularly in builder-client relationship management, portfolio oversight and internal coordination.

Vehicle Requirement
This position requires regular travel between our studio, showhome sites, client meetings, vendors, workrooms, warehouses and project locations throughout Calgary and surrounding communities.
A valid driver’s licence and reliable access to a personal vehicle are required.
Showhome design does not happen exclusively behind a desk. Site visits, installations, vendor visits and time in the field are integral parts of this position.
